Play Therapy Training

Training is divided into courses for therapeutic play and play therapy training accredited by Play Therapy UK (PTUK) and Play Therapy International (PTI).

Important Warning

Play Therapy is starting to attract training providers in India and worldwide who are offering a number of online and short courses. These are usually not validated by a university or a professional body, they do not provide the option of a university academic award, do not lead to certification by a recognised professional organisation and only cover a fraction of skills and experience that is needed to work effectively and safely with children therapeutically. We highly advise that you do not waste your time and money by enrolling in these courses; unless they provide specialist approved training to gain an accredited qualification for working with children.

If you are interested in training as a Play Therapist or a Play and Creative Arts Clinical Supervisor, please contact us for more information.

Certification

Academic validation for PTI course in India

APAC courses are accredited and recognized by a number of professional organizations. The British Council for Therapeutic Interventions With Children (BCTIWC) audits the processes used by PTUK to accredit the APAC courses. bctiwc.org

International play therapy standards are ratified by PTI, through its affiliated organizations and administers the standards on behalf of PTUK.

APAC’s Postgraduate Certificate in Therapeutic Play Skills and Postgraduate Diploma in Play Therapy in India are accredited by APAC and the MA in Practice Based Play Therapy will be accredited by Leeds Beckett University.

As an individual or an organisation you must take care that you don’t waste your time and money on courses that lead nowhere and do not form a coherent part of your career plan or training strategy. A career in Play Therapy must be founded on training that meets the requirements of Government Regulation and be accredited by a recognised academic organisation.

Regulatory body

Currently Play Therapists are not regulated in India and therefore do not have a register. However, PTI India members are affiliated to PTUK and therefore we are members of the PTUK register and meet all the Professional Standards Authority PSA regulations and standards necessary to be on this register. The PSA promotes the health, safety and well-being of users of health and social care services and is recognised as being in the forefront of health regulation worldwide. This means that members of the public and employers can choose a Play Therapist, a Practitioner in Therapeutic Play Skills or a Filial Play Coach belonging to a register accredited by the Professional Standards Authority, (PSA). for Health and Social Care. The PSA is the overseer of all Health and Social Care Professions in the UK.

Until India has its own Government regulation of play therapists, the above register provides the de facto standards for Play Therapy International, India members.
